Panel: Africa’s place in the world - Growing autonomy, influence and domestic challenges to democracy
As the continent gains economic and political confidence, Africa's place in the world and key relationships with other nations are shifting. African nations are demanding a more equitable reformation of global financial systems to support development needs on the continent, and are simultaneously trying to maintain independent foreign policies that do not automatically align with Western positions. Meanwhile the Gulf states, Turkey, Brazil, India, South Korea are playing an increased role in its development. China remains a constant influence on the continent. How is Africa developing autonomy and influence playing out on the global stage?
